A Tenby chip shop has had a request to site outside seating nearby turned down by town councillors.
Speaking at last week’s meeting of Tenby town council, the town clerk Andrew Davies informed members that he’d received correspondence from Pembrokeshire County Council’s streetcare manager Marc Owen stating that the proprietors of the ‘Oh My Cod’ premises situated on White Lion Street had put a request in to place all day benches on a section of the South Parade opposite the restaurant as there was ‘not enough’ places to eat in the vicinity for customers taking food away.
“It’s very difficult to say yes to this - as I don’t think it’s something you can do, as once one business starts doing it, everybody will want to follow!” said the town’s Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown.
“I would say definitely not to this request,” she added, with her colleague Clr. Laurence Blackhall agreeing.
“There are plenty of places to go in Tenby to eat your fish and chips - we can’t just have businesses putting out tables and chairs randomly along the South Parade otherwise everyone in that area will want to do the same,” he remarked. Councillors agreed to reject the request.
