A new ‘working party’ is to be set up by the town council, to look at children’s play provision in Tenby

At this month’s meeting of Tenby town council, Cllr Laurence Blackhall suggested setting up a working party to have a look and see whether any of the play areas recently visited by councillors needed enhancing.

“Let’s see how much it will cost and then come back with a proposal,” he told his fellow members, stressing that he didn’t think the working party would be looking at more than one or two of the play areas, noting that they would not be looking at an asset transfer, just at how they could help Pembrokeshire County Council improve provision.

He said that Heywood Court would be a possibility to enhance, while others he questioned whether they may be actually decommissioned.

Cllr Lynn Attewell said that picnic tables and benches should also be considered along with any play equipment.

“It is all about developing the space, ” agreed Cllr. Blackhall.

Cllr Charles Dale referred to several places where there were open air gyms, but Cllr Sue Lane said that the council had looked into this in the past but there seemed to have been a lack of support for such a facility from the local authority.

The town clerk said that there was also a reluctance to put adult equipment in children’s play areas.
