Nick Bourne, leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the National Assembly and Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, has written to the Children's Commissioner for Wales to express his concern about the proposal to place a TETRA mast near a holiday home for disabled children. A proposal by Arqiva to erect a TETRA mast in Penally has caused an outcry locally as it will be close to 'The Wheelabout', a seaside holiday home to enable disabled children and their parents or carers to enjoy a break in specially designed accommodation. The home is run by the Harriet Davis Seaside Holiday Trust for Disabled Children. In his reply to Nick Bourne's letter, the Children's Commissioner, Peter Clarke, said: "I confirm I have written to the Planning Inspectorate asking them to take into account the rights and the welfare of the children who use 'The Wheelabout' to enjoy a holiday break in especially designed accommodation." Nick Bourne said: "I am delighted that the Children's Commissioner has agreed to write to the Planning Inspectorate on this issue. "The Stewart report recommended that TETRA Masts were kept away from young people and I hope the Planning Inspectorate bear this in mind in coming to a decision. "I believe the case is overwhelmingly against placing this mast in Penally and I hope permission is refused."
