Pembrokeshire is a winning location for the summer holidays, as visiting the beach and a trip to a theme park have topped the league as the favourite activities for a day out for both parents and children, according to new survey results released by Oakwood Theme Park.

With parents set to spend £1.8billion over the six- week holiday on entertaining the children, Oakwood Theme Park conducted the survey to find what activity both parents and children could agree on to make the most of their days out and their money. Visitors to Oakwood were asked what their favourite summer activity was and 20 per cent of parents cited the beach as their favourite. A trip to a theme park came in second with 18.6 per cent and visiting family took third place with 12.6 per cent as their favourite activity. Children on the other hand put theme parks as their number one choice with 20.8 per cent, followed by the beach and cinema as a joint second with 16.6 per cent and their third choice going bowling with 10.4 per cent. Their least favourite activity was visiting family at only 2.3 per cent.

The survey also revealed what children and parents look for in a day out, with parents stating adventure, good weather, being outdoors and value for money as the top four most important factors, whereas children said the most important thing was being with their friends followed by adventure and thrills.

Parents who revealed they would be willing to spend a maximum of £11-£15 per person on a day out may be pleased to hear that children only expect to spend within £6-£10.

Zoe Wright, marketing manager at Oakwood, said: "We ran the survey to find out whether parents and children enjoyed the same activities and we're pleased to see that a trip to a theme park is in the top three of both. Pembrokeshire boasts some of Wales' most beautiful beaches, such as Whitesands and Barafundle Bay, and with Oakwood in the vicinity along with other great attractions, it makes for the perfect summer destination.

"The good thing about a trip to Oakwood is that it encompasses all of the factors for a day out and with the length of activity also being extended to 12 hours during the summer months and rides for big kids and smaller children it's great value for money!"

With the good weather expected to continue over the summer holiday period, Oakwood are expecting to sell 9,000 ice-lollies and 6,700 bottles of water. Andrew Davies, Minister for Economic Development, commented: "Tourists spend over £6 million a day on trips in Wales and we are expecting a great summer. Wales is one country that hosts thousands of different holidays and Pembrokeshire is no exception, the choice of quality attractions is astounding, with something to suit every taste from the beautiful coastline, water sports adventure activities, fascinating historical attractions and castles to stimulating family attractions including Oakwood, Wales' only theme park in the centre of the county. And with the fantastic weather we are experiencing, it really is the perfect time for families to enjoy a day out in Wales."
