In June, four childhood friends from the Yardley area of Birmingham will set out on an emotional 225-mile walk from Llangwm in Pembrokeshire to Chamberlain Square in Birmingham to honour the memory of their and other fathers everywhere, to raise funds for two important causes - the British Heart Foundation and Help Harry Help Others Cancer Charity.
The Walk 2025 was inspired by Neil Hames to honour his father, Wally Hames, who passed away in March 2020.
Neil will be joined by his close friends, Marc Brook, Paul Maynard and Mike Rose. Now, all in their 50s, they face a challenging route that spans 11 days and more than 20 miles a day.
Their journey will begin on Thursday, June 5, from Llangwm Village RFC, and finish on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15, at Chamberlain Square, Birmingham - a fitting tribute to the fathers they walk to remember, thank and celebrate.
“The Walk is about life’s journeys, and doing something extraordinary together in love and memory,” said Neil.
“Every step we take is for the dads we lost, and for the families still fighting against heart disease and cancer. They give us all the inspiration to find ways to give something back.”
The team will traverse a stunning route that includes coastal paths, national parks and countryside trails—covering iconic areas such as the Pembrokeshire Coast, Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, and the Clent Hills before entering Birmingham.

They hope they will be joined by family, friends and well-wishers along the way – even if it’s just for a few miles – to honour dads everywhere. They are busy training and also actively seeking sponsors to help cover event costs and increase their impact, with all remaining funds going directly to the two charities.
