Newman Vincent claimed the annual Chicken Trotters' competition for the 'Danny Carew Putter', but only over the back nine holes, from Chan Thomas, both coming home with 33 points on a glorious May morning.

A point Newman made was that in the early '90s when he joined Tenby Golf Club he was nominated by Danny and seconded by Arthur Booker, both original Chicken Trotters - unfortunately they are no longer with us.

In third place was Mike Fox with 31 pts, and with 28, again on the back three holes, was Peter Williams.

Most players won a prize of sorts. One to mention was Arnold Kaney - for winning the most wooden spoons this year, he won a golf umbrella... to keep him dry while looking for his lost balls!

Running concurrently, for the over 70s, was the 'Norman Badham Trophy'. This was carried away by a comparative youngster, who was 70 years and one-week-old, Colin Griffith, with 29 pts, followed by Doug Perry, Ron Murphy and Sonny Perkins with 25, 25 and 24 pts, respectively, all of whom made various suggestions about premature births.

Thirty-six Chicken Trotters played and 42 sat down to a delightful meal supplied by Ria and staff, even more amazing when we all learnt that Roger Phillips, our steward, had been rushed back into hospital on Thursday. Get well Roger, and take a rest.

That's all for the Chickens this season. We will be back in October, having practised and honed the finer points of Chicken golf. Bye, bye.
