Chevron oil company's key support of the Haven Sunderland project has been recognised by the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust.
An evocative print from a painting depicting Sunderland T9044 before it sank in a November 1940 gale has been presented to the general manager of Chevron's Pembroke Refinery, Mr. Tom Kovar.
Mr Kovar and public affairs manager Phil Thompson met up with members of the Trust to hear of the significant progress made in the last 12 months and to discuss further participation in the exciting project to recover the unique wartime Sunderland from the Haven.
Last year, a generous donation from Chevron enabled the Trust to set up an office and provided the initial funding for a project manager's post. The Trust aims to recover the Sunderland and to conserve and display it locally as part of a Battle of the Atlantic and story of flying boats centre which will be unique to the UK.
Trust chairman William McNamara thanked Chevron for the support which had been a major factor in the excellent progress made by the project team. The print of Sunderland T9044 at its Haven mooring is taken from an original painting by Pembrokeshire artist Graham Brace.
