LAST weekend, 17-year-old Cherie Morgan from Summerhill travelled to London to perform at the SABA UK Unsigned semi-finals.

Cherie was one of six artists to make it through to the live national finals to be staged at the Hackney Empire in London on July 12.

The competition has 15 categories. Cherie took part in the singer songwriter category, singing one of her own songs, 'Sick and Tired'.

The singer songwriter category is one of the most popular and competitive sections of the competition and Cherie fought off stiff competition to secure her place in the finals.

Other famous artists to have shared the same position in this competition in recent years include Leona Lewis and Flawless.

Leona didn't win the competition. It did, however, give her a platform to launch a performing career.

Flawless, who were recent finalists in the Britain's Got Talent TV show, won the dance section of the competition in 2007.

Cherie is the youngest finalist in her category, as well as the only Welsh artist, so not only will she be flying the flag for Pembrokeshire, she will be flying the flag for Wales too.

Cherie is busy preparing herself for the final, which she admits is a bit scary.

"I've never performed in such a famous 1,500-seater venue before," she said, "but I'll do my best and hopefully do Pembrokeshire and Wales proud."
