A Tenby cyclist is about to mount up for a 210-mile one-day charity ride.

Charlie Ratcliffe, a former head girl of the town's Greenhill School, will be amongst a group of 16 cyclists from Cardiff Ajax Cycling Club who will take part in the Welsh End to End tomorrow (Saturday).

Now in her final year of a medical degree at Cardiff University, Charlie, aged 22, was first bitten by the cycling bug when she joined Tenby Aces, riding alongside her mum, Tanis Hand.

Charlie has been working hard to organise the ride from Holyhead to Cardiff in memory of Eric Hodge, a founder member of Cardiff Ajax over 60 years ago, and a renowned long-distance cyclist who rode from Lands End to John O'Groats when he was 77.

The riders hope to raise £3,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care through their challenge.

Taking a coastal route to Dolgellau before heading inland, the ride begins at 4 am and finishes at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay at around 8.30 pm.

Cardiff Ajax chairman Mark Austin said the ride - part of Cardiff's Cycling Festival - was 'a fitting tribute' to Mr. Hodge.

He added: "We are particularly pleased that one of the younger riders in the club has taken on organising this very challenging event with such enthusiasm."
