Sir,
I have taken a moment out of a very active sponsorship schedule to once again offer my heartfelt thanks to all the many hundreds of sponsors I have met in their own homes in towns, villages and hamlets up and down our beautiful county. The response and support I have received for my long distance walking to raise money for specialised diabetes equipment has been quite stunning.
Over the past 12 months, I have completed three areas of the United Kingdom.
A horseshoe walk from New Milton to Christchurch in the Hampshire New Forest in November 2008, with its rich mellow enclosures and glorious forests taking your breath away.
Snowdonia in July 2009, covering footpaths and tracks around the lakes and rugged climbs to Mount Snowdon from Llanberis and the Pyg and miners tracks from Peny-y-Pass.
Most recently I walked the Thames Path in London on the South Bank from the Thames Barrier which spans the river from New Charlton to Silvertown, finishing at Kew and Richmond Park.
Next it will be the towpath of the Llangollen and Shropshire Union Canals in March 2010.
At present, from the ongoing sponsorship, I have reached my initial £3,000 target and shall continue, time and commitments allowing, to raise a further up-front figure to reach around £4,500-plus.
This will be necessary to allow me to purchase two to three major items and accessories for clinics in Pembrokeshire.
When general and practice managers and general practitioners agree what necessary equipment is needed, not being a provison of the NHS, I will finance these on sight of the invoices.
Once again, many, many thanks to all, with special thanks to my sons for helping with advertising and to my wife for putting up with it all.
Clive Lewis,
Stonelea,
New Hedges.
