JAZZ, classics and laughter rang around a sell-out audience at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven, the venue for a Variety Night Out to raise funds for the Paul Sartori Foundation, Pembrokeshire's Hospice Service. Nine local performing groups and soloists gave their support for the event that had every seat booked weeks in advance.

Brian Harries, in his usual inimitable style, steered the show along with the support of the Torch staff and a team of volunteers that had spent months putting the show together. Local operatic, dramatic and dance troupes provided stunning entertainment, along with jazz ensemble and soloists. A classical trio and contemporary recording artists found themselves mixed together with local Pembrokeshire yarns.

Mrs. Joan Mathias, chairman of the Paul Sartori Foundation, gave thanks to the audience for their support for the show, which had been organised by volunteers, namely Mr. Ian Scale, Mrs. Carole Jackson and Mrs. Jo Furnival-Doran. These individuals were thanked for their loyalty to the Foundation in organising a fund-raising event.

"We are indebted to the support from local people for most of our income. It is the proceeds from events such as this which enables our hospice service to expand and satisfy the needs of those living with life limiting illnesses," said Mrs. Mathias.

The local sponsors for the event were thanked, from the man who tuned the piano for nothing, to the printers who produced publicity material at a reduced rate.

"The grand sum of £3,000 was raised at this event and this will certainly help to provide much needed care which the Paul Sartori Foundation as Pembrokeshire's hospice service, is so privileged to provide," said a spokesman for Paul Sartori Foundation.
