A quiz night in aid of Cancer Research, held on Tuesday, April 21, at Cresselly Cricket Club, was once again a resounding success.

It was organised by the Carew and Cresswell Quay local committee, and presided over by Roly Edwards.

As in the spirit of everything competitive, the teams focused hard on the diversity of questions. There was a lot of good humoured banter as the quiz got under way.

The teams jostled for the top positions, the eventual winners being 'Three is a Crowd', who kindly returned their prize money, as did the second placed team 'The Merkins' and the booby prize winners 'The A Team' (perhaps this was not an appropriate team name!).

A buffet, which was made and arranged by the committee members, was served after the first part of the quiz had been completed. It was a feast, and enjoyed by all present.

At the end of the evening, the raffle was drawn. First prize of a bottle of whisky was won by Carol Chandler. A basket of strawberry plants was won by Morgan Scourfield, a gardening gift set went to Linda Richards, Sue Brodie won a National Garden gift voucher and chocolates, Clive Lewis also won chocolates. The wine prizes went to Janet Cole, Trevor Humphries and Kerry Newbury. Finally, Gladys White won the mystery prize.

The bar staff, with Chris Richards in control, worked very hard to keep everyone supplied with liquid refreshment and were as always most helpful to 'the ladies' of the committee.

A total of £365.45 was raised from this event, a marvellous response in these hard times. Thank you very much to all the workers, and most of all to the people who supported the committee again. It is very rewarding to know that so many people continue to give to this worthy cause.
