Sir,
Through the Observer, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those organisations and hard working committees who have enriched village life in Saundersfoot over the last months.
The village has a thriving charity network which has been extremely active raising funds with any number of events throughout the year; we also now enjoy the extra dimension of Ironman, the Saundersfoot Big Bang, St. Nicholas Christmas Market, New Year's Eve firework display and of course the New Year's Day Swim.
I would like to thank the Saundersfoot Festivities committee and the Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism for all the logistical effort that they willingly undertake to stage these extravaganzas, with planning underway throughout the year.
They are supported in their work by a loyal band of volunteers, with vital contributions from Saundersfoot Community Council, Saundersfoot Harbour Commission, Pembrokeshire County Council and PLANED.
The end results are truly remarkable, as remarked on by BBC Radio Wales who were amazed that a community of only 2,700 villagers could stage a swim spectacle attracting over 1,700 swimmers and many thousands of spectators.
From such events, the Saundersfoot experience continues to grow, confidence builds with local businesses being supported and substantial investment in projects such the Coppet Hall visitor centre and restaurant, Regency Hall and Cambrian development.
I would also take this opportunity to ask that that anyone who has enjoyed any of the recent events and would like to help with any of them please contact me and I will put you in touch with the organisers.
Regards and happy New Year.
Phil Baker,
County Councillor
Saundersfoot Ward.
