Three local ladies from Tenby and Pembroke Dock are busy organising a charity gig in aid of The Joshua Foundation.
Rebecca Owens, 31, a full-time mum of three from Tenby, Joanne Case, 32, a customer services manager for Argos in Pembroke Dock, and mum of two, and Simone Chatwin, 32, an outpatient clinic co-ordinator for Hywel Dda Trust in South Pembs. and Tenby hospitals, also a mum of two, became involved with the charity after taking part in the Ab Fab Ladies Midnight sponsored walk.
They enjoyed the walk immensely and it left them wanting to do more for the charity.
As they all have children, the work of this charity really touched their hearts and they felt that to provide happiness to the children and families affected by cancer was beyond value.
So together, the trio are taking part in a gruelling five-day sponsored trek along remote sections of the Great Wall of China; they will be hiking between seven and eight hours a day to raise awareness and money for the charity.
The Joshua Foundation is a charity which was created in September 1998 to provide holidays and experiences for children and there families where the child is suffering from terminal cancer.
Some of the wonderful holidays and experiences include an annual trip to Lapland, trips to theme parks, theatre shows, meeting celebrities, limo rides and many more. Hopefully they would like to organise a trip to Euro Disney this year.
They even have holiday homes at Kiln Park and other accommodation around West Wales.
The charity takes its name from Joshua Cornelius from Caerphilly who was diagnosed with desmoplastic round cell tumour of the abdomen, a terminal cancer, in December 1996, and who died on December 4, 1998.
After his diagnosis, Joshua had to undergo intensive and aggressive chemotherapy.
To offset this, in his 23 months of treatment, he travelled the world - California, New York, Florida, Lapland, Israel and made four trips to Euro Disney - living life to the full. It is an experience the Joshua Foundation endeavours to repeat for others.
The idea behind the experiences and holidays is to provide opportunities for children and their families to escape illness and the intimidating and sterile atmospheres of hospitals.
The aim is to make life a real experience for the children and their families.
Whereas other make a wish foundations provide one-off experiences, the Joshua Foundation effectively 'adopts' children and their families, providing them with ongoing experiences.
Said Simone: "As a group, we have already raised over £700 through the sponsored midnight walk and two pub raids carried out in Tenby.
"The people of Tenby were very generous, especially as we happened to pick two nights with miserable weather."
The trio's next fund-raising event is a charity gig at the Snooty Fox, Canaston, on October 2.
Continued Simone: "We have four brilliant local acts playing, The Collective with Gary Gary, Ella Guru, Al Davey and Samba Doc which I am a member of."
Tickets are only £10 and are available from Dales Music in Tenby and the Pink Cat Shop in Pembroke Dock.
They are also available from the Snooty Fox and the girls themselves.
There will be hot food available and camping is free for ticket holders. Also the girls will be arranging return travel from various places subject to demand for a small fee... so no-one gets stuck with the designated driver role!
They are hoping it will be a real success as the night is supporting local talent, a local venue and a charity that does amazing work with the children and families affected by cancer.
Added Simone: "We will be doing lots of fund-raising over the next few months and we have a justgiving webpage http://www.justgiving.com/SimoneAndBex">www.justgiving.com/SimoneAndBex or http://www.justgiving.com/jo-casetrekking">www.justgiving.com/jo-casetrekking, so if you can help out in any way, big or small, we would love to hear from you."
