Yvette and Euros Hughes, proprietors of the Alpha Inn, Tavernspite, recently raised £905.50 for the Parkinsons Group (Pembrokeshire branch). The donation was in memory of Yvette's late father, Doug Evans, who suffered with Parkinsons. The Alpha Inn holds regular fundraising evenings to generate money for local charities; in fact, since Christmas, the Alpha has raised between £5,000 and £6,000 for various charities in the locality. Events have included a bingo and curry night in January for Brainwave, which raised £765, a Valentine's bingo night in February and a curry and quiz night which raised £1,564 for Dyffryn Taf school and their tour to Holland. In March, an Irish night was held, raising £905 for charity, while over Easter, a bingo night raised £480 for the Narberth Junior Netball team, Last month, a curry and quiz night at the pub helped raise over £700 for Holly Bevan, who is embarking on a trip in August to help build a hospital in Nepal, while another curry and quiz night raised £780 for the children of Soweto. Forthcoming events at the Alpha will see Clive Edwards and the Whitland Male Voice Choir perform in the autumn in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK. Keep an eye out for details of further events over the summer. Congratulations also go to Yvette and Euros's daughter, Aimee, who has once again been chosen to represent the Wales Under 17s women's cricket team on a forthcoming trip to Abu Dhabi. Anyone interested in sponsoring the girls team's kit can contact Yvette at the inn.
