Children of Tavernspite CP School had a busy end to 2006.

In October, £500 was raised for 'Run a Mile'. A Fun Day was held to raise money for the National Urdd Eisteddfod, which will take place in Carmarthen at the end of May. Children dressed in Urdd colours and made and sold cakes. A cheque for £141.23 was presented to Mr. Sulwen Thomas. Children also sold promotional items during the school Christmas Fayre.

In November, £487 was raised for a charity called 'School Children for Children' to help towards supporting disadvantaged children in schools in Thailand, Kenya and Nepal.

Meanwhile, £260 was raised on Children in Need day. This was shared between Children in Need and Samburu Maasai Wales Aid to help build a well for fresh water in a village in Kenya. The theme this time was Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Staff and children used their imagination to come up with ideas for fancy dress by making clothes from newspaper, shredded magazines, cardboard, old clothes that had been altered to fit, and various other materials. Some children bought clothes from local charity shops. During assembly, a fashion show was held and the winners (the most original costume design) won eco prizes, which were kindly donated by both Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire County Councils. Thank you to them.

In December, Mrs. Houghton (Class 2) organised a 'Goat for Africa' and raised in excess of £700. This was sent to a charity called Farm Africa - Goat Appeal. Some people bought a goat instead of sending Christmas cards, some gave a goat voucher as a gift to their family and friends. A talent contest on the goat theme proved a great success, it was called The Goat Factor, what else? Prizes consisted of Fair Trade goats cheese, yogurt and chocolate made with goats milk. Yum!

Thank you to all children and their parents, the PTA and friends of Tavernspite CP School for their generosity, and for all their help and support with fund-raising throughout 2006.
