The proceeds of a charity concert by Cor Meibion De Cymru in aid of Prostate Cymru, at The Market Hall, Llanboidy, have been presented.
An amazing £3,562 was presented by concert organisers Gwynlais and Mary Phillips to Ian Gravell, representing the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru group. Also in attendance at the presentation were choir members Len Jones and Steve Stephenson.
At the popular concert, the choir performed a varied programme to a full house. The evening was compered by Emyr Jones and also featured three soloists: Catrin Aur, a multi-award-winning soprano from Carmarthenshire, Aled Wyn Davies, a tenor from Powys, who is one of the Three Welsh Tenors alongside renowned singers Rhys Meirion and Aled Hall, and Iwan Wyn Parry, a baritone soloist from Gwynedd. The finale of the concert Morte Christe, the famous Welsh hymnal tune, featuring the choir and soloists, received a standing ovation from the enraptured audience.
Cor Meibion De Cymru (South Wales Male Choir) was formed in the early 1980s to tour the east of the United States. Following a successful tour featuring performances in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington, New York and Buffalo, the choir decided to continue as an ensemble. To date, the choir have performed a further 20 international tours, as well as performing locally.
The choir has a number of regional rehearsal groups who convene every three weeks for full ensemble rehearsals in Cwmafan, near Port Talbot. Elaine Robins is the current musical director of the choir which is a member of the Welsh Association of Male Choirs.
