Charitable organisations from Tenby are gearing up for another Summer Spectacular season at the resort’s harbour.
Tenby Rotary Club have the privilege of starting the series of Spectaculars this year on Sunday, July 28, with their second event held on August 11, with rotarians pleased to be providing entertainment again this year through these two popular fundraising occasions.
Both events will start mid-afternoon in the loveliest of locations at Tenby Harbour, when visitors and locals can be sure that they will be fully entertained and well fed through the day and night until the crescendo that is the Rotary Fireworks display at 10 pm.
Many visitors have complemented the organisation for one of the best Firework displays they have witnessed in the past, and it could not be a better setting, but as with all events organisers are reliant on the weather, so will be hoping for dry times over the holiday period.
Children’s entertainment is also an afternoon feature and it is expected that there will be repeat performances from local children’s entertainers, magicians, and dancing groups.
Rides will also be available all as per the previous successful events.
Tenby Rotary will be providing once again their usual popular Hog Roast (with support from The Qube).
Beefburgers and hot dogs will also be available on the day cooked by experienced Rotarians, and to keep cool, drinks will be available at the Tenby Rotary charity bar.
Bands headlining the first evening will be - Sleeping Dogs at 7 pm, followed by Tough Love. On August 11, Grace’s Secret will take to the stage at 7 pm, with Universal Translators playing their set at 8.30 pm.
“The prime object of facilitating the events is to provide a community event geared at family entertainment and raising money for local and international charities - which is what has been successful for many years,” said Tenby Rotarian Alan Jones.
“In total over £13,800 was raised by Tenby Rotary last year with the support of visitors and local people, and critical to this fundraising are the two Summer Spectaculars and the Bonfire Night in November.
Charity Donations can be made by visiting Tenby Rotary Facebook page,” he added.
A total of 32 charities and organisations were supported by Tenby Rotary Club last year, as follows: Bloodwise; Shelter Box; British Legion; St Florence School; Greenhill School; St Johns Ambulance; Hope MS Centre; St Teilo’s School; MAMS; Tenby Church in Wales School; Manorbier School; Tenby Friends of the Community; Mary’s Meals; Tenby Gateway Club Xmas Party; Mercy Ships; Tenby Rugby Club; Parkinsons UK; Tenby Sailing Club; Paul Sartori Foundation; Tenby Talking Newspaper; Polio Plus; Tenderfoot Disabled Sports; Prostate Cymru; Tenovus; RNIB; The Ian Williams Foundation; Rotary Young Leaders; Wales Air Ambulance; Rotary Young Writers; Water Aid; Sageston School; Ysgol Hafan Y Mor.
Tenby Round Table will be hosting their Summer Spectaculars on August 4 and 18, from 3 pm.
At the Round Table’s first event, entertainment will come from - Samba Doc, Seren Irish Dancers, Amanda Short, Sleeping Dogs, Majestic 4.
Samba Doc, Seren Irish Dancers, and The Sleeping Dogs will be back to entertain the crowds on August 18, along with Paul Reggie, After the Fire, and The Collective.
The two nights will also culminate in spectacular firework displays from around 10 pm.
“We are delighted to be hosting our Summer Spectaculars again this year in the stunning setting of Tenby Harbour,” said Tenby Round Table chairman Ieuan Rowell.
“We are looking forward to hosting a variety of different bands on both events along with a selection of stalls, attractions, food and our charity bar.
“We put on several events in Tenby over the year with the sole aim of raising money for local charities and causes. Round Table is a volunteer organisation for men between the ages of 18 and 45 who put on events lite the Summer Spectaculars to help support their community.
“As always we depend on the generosity of the residents and visitors in Tenby and Pembrokeshire to make our events a success. Without your donations we would not be able to continue the work we do. All we ask is £1 per person who comes along.
“I’d like to thank the members of Round Table and our volunteers for their help in organising and putting on these events. We hope to see you all there!” he added.
The last event of the summer at Tenby harbour as always will be the Tenby and District Lions’ Paella Festival on Sunday, August 25.
There is no firework display at this event - but plenty of food stalls, fun and entertainment, including - singers, bands, dancers and lots of activities for kids such as children’s rides, face painting and bubbles.
