Royal Mail has made changes to deliveries in some SA postcodes in South West Wales as part of a national move introducing single, daily deliveries throughout the country.

First and second deliveries have been amalgamated into a single, daily delivery to the following postcode areas, from the following delivery offices:

Narberth Delivery Office, covering postcodes SA66, SA67, SA68.

Tenby Delivery Office, covering postcodes SA69 and SA70.

Whitland Delivery Office, covering postcodes SA34.

Customers are receiving all their post in a single delivery for the day by around lunchtime. Most mail is being delivered well before this time and for some customers there is little or no change to their current delivery times. Delivery arrangements for business customers remain unchanged.

Those customers who want their mail early in the day will be able to collect it from the delivery office from 8.30 am on request - a new, free service. Customers should apply in advance so that the security of the mail is protected. Application forms are available from the delivery offices and there is a dedicated customer services helpline for customers on 0845 602 4536.

Royal Mail area general manager for South Wales, Paul Kelly, said: "Second deliveries account for 20 per cent of Royal Mail's costs, but represent just four per cent of the daily mailbag. So it makes sense to combine first and second deliveries. The changes will help safeguard Royal Mail's six day a week universal service to all 27 million addresses in the UK.

"We employ 80,000 people in our delivery operation nationally, so the reduction of jobs throughout the UK, through the introduction of single delivery, is manageable," said Mr. Kelly.
