There will be a change at the top of Pembroke County Cricket Club following the annual general meeting to be held at Haverfordwest Cricket Club on Wednesday, February 27, at 7.30 pm. After being county chairman for three seasons, former Cresselly cricketer Dave Morris will stand down to be replaced by Trefor Evans, of Whitland, who will be the first Whitland cricketer to become chairman of the Pembroke County Cricket Club. Since retiring as a very effective medium pace bowler for Whitland, Trefor Evans has been involved actively in the administration of the Whitland club, the county club and as one of the leading umpires on the cricket circuit. He is a life member of the Whitland club and is also the club's child welfare officer at the present time. When Trefor Evans becomes chairman, his current post of vice-chairman will need to be filled. Nominations are invited for that post, together with the vacancies on the executive and finance committee and on the senior selection committee. The county team has not had any fixtures in recent seasons, so it is important for the new blood on the selection committee to include people who will be proactive in arranging fixtures. In announcing the annual general meeting, county club secretary Bill Marchant said: "Nominations properly proposed and seconded for officers (excluding the chairman), including vice-chairman, executive and finance committees, senior selection committee, youth and junior selection committee, together with resolutions and amendments to the rules, must be submitted to me on or before Wednesday, January 30. "I would very much appreciate any notices of motion or nominations being emailed to me at [email protected]">[email protected]." Club secretaries have also been asked to indicate which County Cricket Club cup competitions they wish to enter and again Mr. Marchant would like details to be submitted by email, rather than by telephone. Continuing, Bill Marchant said: "I have already started on the handbook for 2008. If you are aware of errors, omissions, changes of personnel, telephone numbers, addresses and email addresses, please let me know as soon as possible." Unfortunately, Maenclochog and Stackpole Thirds have decided to drop out of the league. With most of the Maenclochog squad also involved in rugby, it was sometimes difficult for them to field a full strength team each week and the Stackpole club also found it difficult to field three teams and keep two grounds in prime condition. The loss of Maenclochog to the league will have a silver lining for some neighbouring clubs, as many of the players are likely to switch to other teams in the area, including Crymych, Llechryd, Whitland and Narberth.
