Pembrokeshire junior cricket is at a crossroads. Over the next two years, it will either sink or swim as a participating and competing region of Wales. There has never been a more challenging time for the game in Pembrokeshire as preparations are made to enter a two-year trial period as one of the junior cricket regions of Wales. Next summer will see the Pembrokeshire junior cricket representative county teams (Under 10 to Under 15) competing in all the Welsh national competitions and festivals; and they will be competing as Pembrokeshire, as opposed to being a component part of West Wales. With this very much in mind, the Pembrokeshire Association of Cricket Coaches are preparing a stimulating winter programme of coach education, Dragon coaching and county squad training which will help prepare the coaches and young cricketers of Pembrokeshire for the demanding times ahead. As part of the coach preparation programme, refresher courses, seminars and workshops have been organised to complement the coaching award course for new coaches, and the ECB Level 2 course for existing coaches, that are about to start shortly at Tenby Leisure Centre. This supplementary programme, which will take place at Thornton Hall, Milford, will comprise the following: Sunday, October10: Refresher course for Dragon Coaching, 2-5 pm. Tuesday, October 19: Hands-on video analysis workshop, 6-8 pm. Sunday, October 31: Refresher course for squad coaching, 2-5 pm. Thursday, November 18: Common coaching problems workshop, 8-10 pm. Coaches, existing and new, wishing to subscribe to the course(s), should advise the course convener, Ray Kane (tel: 01646 682106), without delay as numbers are limited.
