A new group of Learning Support Assistants has 'graduated' in Pembrokeshire. Clr. Islwyn Howells, cabinet member for children and young people, presented certificates in learning support to five candidates at a presentation at Neyland Teachers Centre recently. Over the past 12 months the five assistants have taken part in a training programme run by Pembrokeshire County Council for LSAs employed in its schools. The programme includes attending lectures by education and health professionals, undertaking a workplace project, as well as being assessed in the workplace. The training is part funded by the Basic Skills Agency and local schools. In the past year, over 50 LSAs in Pembrokeshire have followed some form of training as part of their professional development.
