The people of New Hedges gathered together on Tuesday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War. Chairman Des Brace, of St. Mary Out Liberty Community Council, gave a warm welcome to those in attendance, including chairman of New Hedges Village Hall committee, Christine Butland, and Pat Morgan, president of New Hedges WI. Canon Andrew Davies led a peaceful ceremony of remembrance. County Councillor Jonathan Preston read from Laurence Binyon's poem, 'For The Fallen'. A minute's silence was observed after which Canon Davies planted an oak tree in memory of those who served.
