Sir,
I decided to write this letter to bring it to the attention of the populace of Tenby and District areas, because of my concern for the condition of the access road to the New Cemetery.
My family and I had no reason to use this road until six months ago when my husband was laid to rest in the cemetery.
On numerous occasions since, I have spoken to bereaved family members who have loved ones buried there, and they are of the same opinion as me, that the access road is a let down, and that the people of Tenby deserve better.
Walking and driving on this road are both hazardous, with broken, rutted and slippery surfaces. Added to this are the overhanging branches which could prove dangerous. It must also be very difficult for some disabled people to reach the cemetery to pay their respects.
My opinion is, that the safety of pedestrians is paramount, and should not be ignored. Surely, this must come under 'Health and Safety'.
I have spoken to a local Tenby town councillor who informed me that the repairs needed to the road are not a priority. Furthermore, I have also spoken to one of two elected Pembrokeshire county councillors, who has put this complaint forward to the appropriate department.
To all concerned, I personally feel that this should be considered a 'priority,' not only for the present users of the road, but for the benefit of future users.
Lon Evans,
Past Mayoress,
Tenby Borough Council.
PS. The present inclement weather is irrelevant to the contents of this letter, but it does further add to the condition of this access road.
