SEPARATE SIX-PACK FACT FROM FICTION
Abs are not made in the gym: In reality, what we do in the kitchen is far more important. Exercise will help develop strong abs, but we won’t be able to see them if they’re hidden under a layer of flab. Reducing our consumption of junk food, sugary drinks and alcohol is a good place to start.
Crunches will not burn belly fat: It is impossible to target specific fatty areas with exercise. Fat loss occurs all over our body simultaneously and sadly our spare tyre is often the last thing to disappear.
Crunches are the best exercise: Forcing ourselves to do countless crunches is at best a moderately effective strategy for working our abs and at worst a recipe for back pain and injury. Instead, try building up the length of time you can hold the plank position, by supporting yourself on your elbows and toes with your body in a straight line.
