WHY AM I RIDING?
One of the joys of cycling is the freedom to go wherever you like, whenever you like. But if you want to get the most benefit, whether you’re training for an event or using cycling as part of a fitness regime, it’s worth making sure you always have an objective in mind - to ride at a certain speed, cover a set distance or just focus on something like pedalling technique. Vary your time in the saddle to include a mix of long, slow rides (good for stamina) and short, intense sessions featuring hills or sprints.
British Cycling offers training plans on its website (britishcycling.org.uk), which are suitable for everyone from complete beginners through to those preparing for a race and some advanced training to take your cycling to the next level.
