The Lady Taverners held their seventh annual Children's Charity Cricket Match and Fun Day at Manor House Wildlife Park on Sunday, July 7.

Guest celebrities Rachael Heyhoe-Flint, the former captain of the England Ladies cricket team and president of the Lady Taverners, and Bella Emberg, comedienne, probably best known for her role as 'Wonderwoman' on the Russ Abbot Show, were there to join in the match in which local disabled and disadvantaged children team up with young Pembrokeshire cricketers who help them throughout the game.

This year, the young players were from Haverfordwest and Hundleton Cricket Clubs. Pembrokeshire cricket coaches Ray Kane, Phil Thomas and Paul Kemp assisted during the match, but Rachel joined in showing that her cricketing skills had not left her

As always, Penny Davies took on the task of scoring.

The event is sponsored by Texaco, which enables all the youngsters to receive a trophy to take home. These, together with the 'Man of the Match' awards to Lucy Vickers and Michael Smith, were presented by Phil Thompson, of Texaco, Rachel and Bella (see picture above).

Jane Kemp, chairman of the West Wales region of the Lady Taverners, said: "Once again we had a wonderful day. It is always a great thing to see disabled and able bodied children involved together in sport.

"I would like to thank Texaco, Manor House, the Pembrokeshire coaches, the young cricketers and my fellow Lady Taverners Julie White, Penny Davies, Sara Griffin, Jenny Cole, Nuala Walsh and Vicky White, for their help and support which is invaluable in enabling us to continue, giving young people, especially those with special needs, a sporting chance."
