SPAN Arts will celebrate St. Patrick's night revisited with two bands at the Queen's Hall, Narberth, tonight (Friday), with the Celtic roots of The FOS Brothers Band and The Jim Fox Band.
The FOS Brothers forge ahead with their original brand of Celtic roots music, featuring the song writing of Dave McCrory, stunning vocals from brother Sam, the wild fiddle of Paul Sax, all held together by Rom Dobbs, an innovative drummer/percussionist from the south-west of England.
Twin acoustic guitars, violin, mandolin and powerful vocals set in an ambient backdrop of drums and percussion, The Fos Brothers fuse their inherited Celtic traditions with passionate original songs awash with fire and vitality. Solid unpretentious stuff from a band who are out to enjoy themselves with the audience.
This is Irish music with attitude, even a threatening edge, and there is always a hint of the unusual, from U2 to Frank Zappa.
The band has a musicality and flexibility that is rare. The brothers are from Northern Ireland, and this prevailing influence gives a genuine Celtic flavour to the music.
Jim Fox has built up a reputation around the festival for his Irish influenced music, choosing songs by Van Morrison, Christy Moore and from the traditional songbook. His entertaining three-piece outfit make the perfect start to an evening to celebrate Irishness.
Doors open at 8 pm.
