Saundersfoot is getting ready for a celebration of all things Welsh to mark the country’s national day.
On the weekend after St. David’s Day, Saturday March 4, will see the village’s legendary cawl trail complemented by a Welshfest featuring music, traditional costume and a dragon trail, together with produce and products made and grown in the locality.
Organised by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism, the day will centre on the annual Cawl Cooking Championship of the World...and Elsewhere.
Seven different eating establishments in the village will be challenging for the title, which is judged on the taste-test of the public.
Collectable cawl bowls will be on sale from the harbour decking from 11 am ahead of the cawl trail which takes place between noon and 3 pm.
Strolling musicians Fiddlebox will be out and about in the village to add to the lively atmosphere, while, between 11 am and 4 pm, the Regency Hall will be the venue for a variety of stalls selling Welsh products and produce.
The stalls are being co-ordinated by 19-year-old Pembrokeshire College student Natalya Hinde, of Tenby, as a community project towards her Welsh Baccalaureate.
The hall will also be serving up a traditional Welsh afternoon tea, with home-made Bara Brith, Welsh cakes and Teisen Lap on offer.
Entry is free to the hall throughout the day, with the event’s grand finalé starting at 3 pm with musical entertainment, cawl championship results and prizes for the dragon trail and fancy dress winners.
