It was just a year ago, on a cold and snowy February day, that the Tenby Lifeboat Station Appeal was launched. A 'Tea for Ten-by' theme, giving parties in support of the appeal, was taken up by groups and individuals around the county, and other fund-raising ideas and generous donations soon followed. At that time, the target figure of £20,000 seemed distant, but 12 months later, thanks to the wonderful efforts of supporters, only £4,000 remains to be raised. It is hoped that the generous people of Pembrokeshire will once again join in the idea of entertaining a group of friends, but this time by offering 'Cawl for a Cause'. Now is the time to cook a pot of cawl, invite some acquaintances round to share it, ask each one for a donation of £2.50 for the RNLI and see how much can be collected. The exciting prospect of Wales's final Six Nations rugby matches would be enhanced if friends watched TV together while enjoying this most traditional Welsh dish. Pubs and sports clubs might also be prepared to help. St. David's Day is also an occasion for a get-together. There are many recipes for cawl. Onions, carrots, potatoes and swede are simmered in a pot with pieces of lamb or ham, and leeks are the final essential ingredient. Served with bread and cheese, this nourishing meal will delight your friends, while their donations will delight the RNLI! Any money raised can be mailed to the appeal secretary, Jennie McIntosh, at Braeside, East Williamston, who will send receipts and certificates of thanks to supporters. "The final goal of £20,000 is within reach - and if, by chance, it is even exceeded, the extra funds will go towards the running of the new station," said Jenny. "Now that the cranes have gone from the site, the new boathouse appears finished, but work continues on the interior and the building is not yet ready for use. "Money is still needed and everyone helping to reach the total will have the satisfaction of knowing that their contribution will save lives in the future."
