The Regency Hall, Saundersfoot, will be this year's venue for the Cawl Cooking Championship of the World which is held appropriately on St. David's Day each year.
This will be the third year that the championships which are organised by the Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism and sponsored by the Taste of Wales, have been held.
With a first prize of £150 plus a trophy, interest in the event is coming from hotels and restaurants from Fishguard, Swansea and Cardiff as well as in the local area. The competition is open to both trade and amateur chefs and the winner will be chosen on the basis of recipe, preparation skills, cleanliness, neatness and order of work, taste and final presentation.
Only traditional cawl using lamb will qualify for judging plus the use of fresh Pembrokeshire produce.
Judges will be Phil Bradshaw from the UWIC; Kate Morgan, Food and Craft Officer for Pembrokeshire County Council plus local dignitaries.
As well as the cawl competition there will be a variety of food and craft stalls present which will be selling Pembrokeshire produce vegetables and crafts plus Welsh cakes from the local WI.
Later on in the afternoon local school children are being invited to enter for the best dressed Welsh costume competition.
The Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism invite all local residents and visitors to come along to the Regency Hall and celebrate St. David's Day in true Welsh style with cawl and Welsh cakes.
