Over 200 members of the South West Wales Federation of the Townswomen's Guilds recently gathered at St. David's Cathedral for a service of praise and thanksgiving to celebrate 75 years of the organisation. During the processional hymn, the South West Wales Federation banner, followed by the banners of six member guilds, were paraded and were received into the sanctuary. Members were warmly welcomed by the Dean, who was delighted that the Federation was holding the service at St. David's. They were also welcomed by the Federation chairman, Mrs. Joy Griffiths. Then followed the lighting of the candle ceremony by the National chairman, Mrs. Pam Pollock. The first reading was by the Federation president, Mrs. Dorothy Thomas, and this was followed by prayers. Then followed the second reading, given by the Federation vice-chairman, Mrs. Anne Sillick. This was followed by the secular reading by the Federation secretary, Mrs. Margery Rees. The address was given by the Rev. Michael John, of St Mary's, Tenby. An excellent choice, who was loud in his praise of all the work carried out by the members over those 75 years, and then wished them well for the future. The final reading and thoughts were given by National chairman, Mrs. Pam Pollock, who was indeed delighted to have been there on this auspicious occasion. After the singing of the two National Anthems, the banners were received from the sanctuary and paraded to the rear of the cathedral. And it was this correspondent who was very proud to have been allowed to carry the Federation banner at such a splendid service. The choice of hymns for the service was excellent, and the singing was a pleasure to listen to. Great credit must go to Federation chairman, Mrs. Joy Griffiths, who looked the part, and had a great deal to do with the preparations for the service.
