HIGHLY acclaimed Welsh outdoor touring company, the Wales Actors' Company, returns to Pembrokeshire this month with its own unique brand of inventive open-air theatre.
Now in its 17th year, the company will be kicking off a Wales-wide tour of abbeys and castles throughout the Principality with their version of Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew' in Newport on July 10.
They will play Manorbier Castle the following night (July 11). And later in the month, on July 16 and August 5, they return to Pembrokeshire to perform at Carew Castle and Llawhaden Castle, respectively.
'Taming of the Shrew' is one of Shakespeare's funniest, exciting and moving comedies, dealing with the age-old mystery of the relationship between man and woman and the 'merry war' of love between shrewish Katherina and Petruchio.
Over the years, the company has tackled numerous Shakespearean classics, including 'King Lear', 'The Tempest', 'Twelfth Night' and 'Macbeth', with each production crackling with a raw energy and infectious enthusiasm which draws in the audience, aided by the settings of some of the country's most beautiful and atmospheric castles and historic monuments.
Directed by Ruth Garnault, 'Taming of the Shrew' features artistic director Paul Garnault as Petruchio, Charlotte Rogers as Katherina and Christopher Llewellyn as Lucentio.
Other cast members include Stephen Marzella, Stacey Daly, Roy Blackburn and Tony Leader.
All performances start at 7 pm prompt.
Limited seating is provided, but it is advisable to bring a chair or rug to sit on. You could even mak a real night of it and bring along a picnic and something to drink.
As these are open-air events, warm clothing is advisable and the show will go ahead despite the weather, so be prepared!
