The prestigious Full Sandford Award has been officially presented to Carew Castle and Tidal Mill.

The site, which is leased and run by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, has been recognised for its unique role in providing a 'quality education' experience for school groups.

Gareth Fitzpatrick, Chief Executive of the Heritage Education Trust, recently visited Carew and presented the award to National Park Authority Chairman, Clr. Gordon Cawood, and staff.

Mr. Fitzpatrick was one of the judges who praised the enthusiastic staff for 'making learning history satisfying and fun.'

A Full Sandford Award recognises the outstanding contribution being made to heritage education through educational services and facilities and which have to meet a level of excellence in five areas.

The Castle and Mill attract over 30,000 visitors annually including several thousand children who learn about Tudor times and of the last great medieval tournament held in Wales in 1507.
