Plaid AM Nerys Evans has welcomed the news that Pembrokeshire will benefit from One Wales government funding to boost the number of affordable homes in the area.
Announced by Plaid's Deputy Minister for Housing, Jocelyn Davies AM, the Welsh Assembly Government has agreed a £15 million deal with housing associations in local authority areas throughout Wales to deliver up to 300 new affordable homes.
The £15 million is the first instalment of the £42million extra funding that the deputy housing minister has made available as part of the Assembly Government's response to the downturn in the housing market.
Pembrokeshire will receive £636,562 this year.
Plaid's Nerys Evans said: "It is great news that the One Wales government is delivering extra funding towards creating more affordable homes here in the county. This money will not only increase the supply of affordable homes, but also help liquidity in the construction industry and keep people in jobs. In the 2007 elections, Plaid Cymru proposed a number of measures to tackle the shortage of affordable homes to rent or buy, and ensured that these ideas were incorporated into the One Wales agreement when we went into government.
"As a result of additional funding, people in Pembrokeshire will have the opportunity to stay in their local community at an affordable cost."
Plaid's Deputy Housing Minister, Jocelyn Davies said: "I am pleased to reveal that housing associations will this year get an extra £15 million to boost the creation of affordable housing in Wales. Our aim was to give a vital stimulus to the construction industry, while also helping the most vulnerable families in Wales."
