Sunday saw the Tenby links covered in frost for the Rabbits Section's annual Dilwater competition, which prompted some comments from those gathered as to the amount of clothing needed to go out in.
Your scribe attracted a lot of comments from Messrs. Smith and Harts, all of which were treated with the contempt they deserved, and at least I was warm.
However, a little known fact about 'our Mackie' is that he is a sucker for Giorgio Armani pour Homme! This was only found out as Mike Munro happened to be wearing some of the aforementioned aftershave and Mackie wouldn't leave his side for most of the round... so Mrs. H if you're wondering what to get him for Christmas, its Armani Harts.
Anyway, back to the golf. Four groups of four ventured out on what turned out to be a very nice sunny morning; all the greens soon lost the frost and began running at their best and scores in the 40s were expected.
First back to the clubhouse were our captain Tim and partner Giorgio with a very creditable 43 points (too many two-pointers on the back nine was the gripe)
Next in were the vice-captain Phil Carps and Bob Flower, playing witht Paul Davies and Mick Gillet. It would be remiss of me not to mention what happened on the 17th hole at this point. With all four having teed-off, only one ball was on the green, that of Bob Flower. Mick's ball was about 20 yards away in the semi rough behind a bunker, but with a shot reminiscent of the great Sergio Garcia, a sand wedge over the trap, one bounce and a roll into the cup, four points and a rather large shout of glee, as well as £8 to the better.
Bob fared better on the 18th, though, rolling in a par putt for four points and helping to rack up a score of 45 for him and Phil. This wasn't going to be beaten and so they sat in the clubhouse 'smugly' awaiting the presentation.
Mackie and Tim were second on countback, with Paul and Mick third.
Everyone was in good festive cheer as the captain presented the prizes and also informed us that the match against the Divots would be on Sunday, January 8, with an 8 am tee-off - and we will be off the whites, to make it easier for them!
It just leaves me to say a merry Christmas to all readers of this and look forward to the New Year.
