Sir, All the committee were dismayed by the shops and stall holders on Saturday with the amount of 'silly string'. As they know, it's not wanted by Civic Week organisers. The band will never come again, so it looks like we will never be able to book another band for the parade. The band were covered and so were their instruments. The Carnival, Rose and Fairy Queen were also covered and were very upset. Competitors that walked, one with a child of age two in a buggy, were sprayed in the face, not only spraying were children, but adults too. As Mayor, I was also covered and took it in good fun, but when a can was thrown into the back of the truck I travelled in, I got worried about everyone's safety. As chair of Civic Week I know we all want to have fun, but what fun do you get spraying small children that have not even been judged. The committee will now discuss with police what can be done. I will for the safety of everyone, competitors, as well as onlookers, cancel the carnival, and how much money will the sellers of the string make then.
Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers, Chairman, Narberth Civic Week.
