There were plenty of seaside frolics in Tenby on Wednesday afternoon as the resort's retained firemen staged their annual summer carnival.
Graced with brilliant sunshine, the traditional summer highlight attracted record entries to delight the bumper crowds which lined every available vantage point to view the colourful cavalcade.
Earlier in the day, the fun centred around Tenby Fire Station in South Parade, before the carnival procession brought the resort's narrow streets alive with a blaze of colour and party atmosphere.
Led by the ever popular Swansea East Carnival Display Band, the procession of floats and a record number of walking entries brought a smile to the face of visitor and local alike as it wound its way through the town to the Jubilee Gardens where prizes were presented by the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown.
Heading the parade were the two attractive floats bearing Carnival Queen Chelsea Rees and her attendants Lucy Elstone and Hannah Lloyd and Carnival Princess Jody Tucker and her attendants Emma Tucker and Adele Tovey.
Topical entries like Big Brother and Survivor, mingled with fairytale favourites and television and film personalities as entrants pulled out all the stops to make for another memorable parade and boost the local firemen's fund-raising efforts for the Firemen's Benevolent Fund.
Winner of the Bert and Marjorie Ford Shield for the best charity float was Tenby Ladies Circle as Bob the Builder and friends, while Tenby Round Table scooped the best float award as Henby Night Out.
Both organisations generously handed back their prize money to boost the Benevolent Fund coffers.
Retaining the Best Pub Float category for the second successive year as 'Stags and Hens' was the Three Mariners.
Station Officer Clive Webb felt that the day had been "absolutely brilliant".
While he was a little disappointed by the number of lorry-borne entries, this had been more than compensated for by a record number of fancy dress walkers, and Station Officer Webb was delighted to see so many locals and holidaymakers joining in the carnival spirit.
"The walking entries were outstanding," he said. "I think it's our biggest ever turnout.
"For the first time ever, the weather has been perfect," he smiled. "The warm, sunny weather has made for a warm sunny carnival and I think everyone has enjoyed themselves.
"On behalf of Tenby Firemen I would like to thank everyone who entered and supported the event and hopefully we'll be able to present quite a substantial cheque to the Firemen's Benevolent Fund as a result."
The judges were David Jenkins and family from Derbyshire and Brian Richardson and family from Nottingham.
