Tenby firefighters are inviting personnel past as well as previous carnival queens, princesses and attendants for a special photo shoot on the open day of the carnival’s 100th anniversary festivities.

An aerial photo from the tower at the rear of the fire station looking down onto the yard area, to capture a gathering of all current and retired personnel is being planned by Tenby firefighter Lee Simmons for the big day on Wednesday, August 7, for 1 pm.

“I’d like to put an invite out to anyone who has participated in the carnival procession as mentioned and if we could get any representatives from any members who’s relatives would have served on our station going way back then that would be great too,” explained Lee.

“They don’t have to turn up in previous attire just an attendance from anyone who has been involved over the centenary year would be fantastic!” he continued.

The open day for the public at the fire station will start at 10.30 am, with various stalls and children’s rides. There will also be demonstrations throughout the day on: Home Fire Safety by our Home Fire Safety department which will include a burning chip pan demonstration; Road Traffic Collision extrication by the Tenby Firefighters; CPR awareness and the use of defibrillators from Cariad, an invaluable demonstration for all ages; A play Fire Engine in Tudor Square; Search and Rescue Dogs; Blood Bikes; and many more great things to see.

This will be followed by the fantastic Carnival Parade of floats, walking class fancy dress and other vehicles of interest, setting off around 5.15 pm from Tenby Train Station, proceeding up Warren Street along the Parade, through the Imperial Arch and up Frog Street before making its way to Tudor Square, then finally down to the Harbour where the awards for the best in class are given.

As well as the main carnival day - to mark the centenary festivities, there will be more events organised for the week, starting off with a ‘pop-up cinema’ screening of the film Backdraft at Tenby Fire Station on Monday, August 5 (tickets £6 each can be bought online through films4tenby).

Following the carnival, on Thursday, August 8, Tenby Male Voice Choir will be staging an evening performance down on Tenby Harbour; and on Friday, August 9 - the official carnival book launch, looking back at the history of the event, will take place at Tenby Museum.

The firefighters carnival parade has proved ever popular over the last few years and has attracted many visitors who book to stay in the town and surrounding areas especially for this event.

“With that, we at Tenby fire station are asking for your help. We are looking for sponsorship or donations for our summer carnival,” explained Lee.

“We are not asking for a large contribution, what we ask for is either a donation or a gift for our raffle that is held in our open day at the station before the carnival.

“If you feel that you would like to donate a gift, this would be greatly appreciated by all at the station.

“The charity we are collecting for is the Firefighters Charity (formally the benevolent fund).

“Last year was a very successful year, and we managed to raise nearly £5,000 for the charity. This was only achievable because of the kind donations from business and locals from the Pembrokeshire area, for which we at the Fire Station are very grateful for and would like to thank you for your continued support.

If you feel you can help in any way, contact Lee via email at [email protected] or through the Tenby Fire Station Facebook page.
