Carmarthenshire County Council is advising residents that, with immediate effect, fridges, freezers and other cooling appliances can no longer be accepted at any of the county's recycling centres until further notice.

The temporary suspension follows ongoing disruption to the collection and reprocessing of refrigeration appliances, known as COLD units, at external treatment facilities. As a result, all recycling centres across Carmarthenshire have now reached, or exceeded, their safe storage capacity for these items.

The measure has been introduced to ensure sites remain safe, compliant and fully operational while existing stock is cleared and arrangements for onward collection and treatment are resolved.

Residents are asked not to bring fridges, freezers or other cooling appliances to recycling centres during this period, as sites will be unable to accept them.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste and Infrastructure Services, Cllr Edward Thomas, said: "Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control have resulted in a temporary disruption to the collection and processing of refrigeration appliances. Our recycling centres have now reached their storage limits for these items, and we have had to suspend acceptance until further notice.

“We understand this will cause inconvenience for some residents and would like to thank them for their patience and cooperation while we work with our partners to resolve the situation."

The Council will provide further updates as soon as collection arrangements resume and sufficient storage capacity becomes available.
