Carmarthenshire County Council is marking Wales Tourism Week 2025 (May 12-18) by celebrating major investments, new attractions, and the growing impact of tourism on the county’s economy and communities.
Tourism continues to be a cornerstone of Carmarthenshire’s economy, with 3.31 million visitors welcomed in 2023 and a local economic impact of £683.26 million. It is a key driver of local employment, business development, and cultural pride - supporting communities across the county.
Recent investment has further strengthened Carmarthenshire’s visitor offer. Among the latest developments is the opening of a brand-new 12-hole crazy golf course at Caban Pendine, offering a fun and family-friendly attraction at Pendine Sands.
Another major milestone is the launch of the first completed section of the Tywi Valley Path, a scenic route designed for walkers, cyclists, and wheelchair users. The newly opened 4-mile stretch runs between Abergwili and Nantgaredig, with the full 16.7 mile path set for completion later this year.
Once finished, the traffic-free route will connect the Tywi Valley to Ffairfach, providing a safe and accessible journey through one of Carmarthenshire’s most picturesque landscapes.
Supported through the Welsh Government’s Brilliant Basics fund, Carmarthenshire County Council has also delivered a series of infrastructure improvements to enhance the overall visitor experience.
These include improved access at key heritage sites such as Carmarthen Museum and Llansteffan.
In addition, significant funding has been secured for projects at Pembrey Country Park and the WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre. These upgrades have enhanced on-site facilities and strengthened long-term sustainability.
In celebration of Wales Tourism Week, Carmarthenshire County Council has launched a new gold-level filming module within its free online Tourism Ambassador Scheme. This module highlights the county’s growing appeal as a film and television destination.
It also introduces the Set-Jetters Guide, helping local businesses and residents promote iconic filming locations. The module supports VisitBritain’s Starring Great Britain campaign, aimed at boosting screen tourism across the UK.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism, Cllr Hazel Evans said: “Tourism in Carmarthenshire supports jobs, drives investment, and helps preserve the unique places that make our county special. From new visitor attractions to community-led projects, we’re proud to showcase the very best of what we offer all year round.”
