Caring children at Tenby Junior School did more that just give a special thought to children with cancer last month - they did something about it by raising more than £300 for cancer research.
The children collected the money to support Cancer Research UK Cymru during December's Children's Cancer Awareness month by holding a Christmas raffle, donating the proceeds from their Christmas concerts and by selling Christmas Pudding badges, raising £318.08 in the process.
The pupils, aged between seven and 11, were also assisted by staff who decided not to send each other Christmas cards, but agreed to make donations to the cause instead.
The children, accompanied by headteacher Mrs. Jan Llewellyn and Year Four teacher Mrs. Gaynor Day, presented the cheque to Linda Strange, community fundraiser for Cancer Research UK Cymru and local Cancer Research UK branch committee members, Margaret Hill, secretary, and Pat Taylor, treasurer, on Monday.
"It's so encouraging to see young children thinking of children just like themselves who may be suffering from cancer and helping to support the work of Cancer Research UK," said Linda.
Cancer Research UK is the UK's leading cancer charity, dedicated to curing, treating and preventing the disease through world class research.
Cancer Research UK Cymru will be holding an All Day Big Breakfast on Friday, March 7, to emphasise the need for a healthy life style and is appealing for people to take part by calling its breakfast hotline on 08701 602040.
Alternatively, you can register by calling the area fundraising office on (02920) 224386 or by logging on to http://www.cancerresearchuk.or/allday">www.cancerresearchuk.or/allday breakfast
The bright sparks of Tenby Junior School have also raised over £80 to help supply Romanian children with special torches.
Money raised at the school's Harvest celebrations and through a collection box, has enabled special wind-up torches to be purchased for children tending sheep in the former Communist country's Carpathian mountains.
