Pembrokeshire music lovers enjoyed a star-studded line-up and spectacular firework display last Saturday night while raising valuable funds for charity at the first ever 'Carew Rock' concert. Famous faces including rock legends from three world-famous bands took to the stage to entertain tickets holders on Carew Airfield. RNLI fund-raising bosses have earmarked the proceeds from the concert to the Tamar Class Lifeboat Appeal for Angle. The fund-raising drive to raise £1 million for a new state-of-the-art lifeboat for the volunteer lifeboat crew at Angle RNLI lifeboat station was launched last year.  Local acoustic rock bands Dazed and The Blims kicked off the event in blazing sunshine as music fans enjoyed an afternoon of top entertainment. Later on the bill was rapper Everton, local girl Chez, The Fables, Ultraviolet and r'n'b girl band Traquitra, followed by an appeal for funds for the RNLI by world famous actor, Oliver Tobias. Next on the bill were 80s superstar Paul Young and his band Los Pacaminos, who got the crowd up and dancing with their energetic set in the build up to the main attraction. Crowning the night with a world class performance of songs from their previous bands and from their new album were The Jones Gang, led by Small Faces and The Who drummer Kenney Jones, with vocals from Robert Hart from Bad Company and guitar from Rick Wills, formerly of Foreigner. The band were also joined on stage for a number of songs by former Hear'Say and now Coronation Street actress, Kym Marsh. Kym and husband Jack Ryder, who played Jamie Mitchell in Eastenders, helped the RNLI draw the raffle and announced the lucky winners on stage. Despite hundreds of tickets being sold, the third prize of a bottle of Bollinger champagne and the first prize of a Hyundai Getz car for a year, generously donated by Hyundai, were both won by the same lucky person, Hannah Price-Richards from Lamphey. Second prize of a Virgin balloon flight with champagne was won by Alex Nicholas from Pembroke Dock. The evening went out with an impressive bang as one of the largest firework displays seen in Wales illuminated the Jones Gang's encore on stage. Beverley Rosser-Smith, area fund-raising manager for the West Wales area, said: "As a charity which relies on voluntary donations and legacies, we were delighted to benefit from the concert. Over £1,200 was also donated throughout the day through collections and the raffle and the profile of the RNLI's appeal for a new boat in Angle has been enhanced greatly.  "The RNLI would like to thank all those who bought tickets for the concert, and all those who worked so hard volunteering to help the RNLI on the day. We would also like to thank the concert organiser James Black, all the performers, all at Carew Airfield and the event's generous sponsors, Hyundai Cars UK and Texaco." Funds raised at other upcoming events will continue to add to the RNLI's Angle lifeboat appeal, including sponsorship from daredevils prepared to dangle from a giant zip wire suspended from a 10- storey building in Birmingham.
