Pictured above is Paul Murphy with the members of Carew Youth Club. Paul has just competed in the European Power Lifting Championships held in Port Talbot. Paul came first in his category (82.5 kilos), winning gold. He has been competing in power lifting competitions for 12 years and he won this, his third European title, by putting in a lot of dedication and hard work. Paul has also won the world power lifting title three times and is due to compete for this title again later this year in Mexico. His wife, Janet, is a club leader and Paul has also spent an evening at the club talking to members about his gruelling training routine. Good luck for Mexico, Paul. Recently, one of member of the Youth Club competed in the Welsh Climbing Championships held in Swansea. Tom Arnold came second in his group, representing the Swansea club, Dynamic Rock. Tom is now representing Wales in the category for seven to nine-year-olds in Edinburgh this weekend against Ireland, Scotland and England. The club wishes him lots of luck. Tom has lots of enthusiasm and is sure to do well. Finally, a mention for loyal leader, Lucy Blaney. Lucy has been attending club for many years and now helps out as a leader. She is off to Denmark on July 26 for two weeks, representing Girl Guiding Cymru. Lucy earned her place by going through various rounds, including things like cooking, team work, exercises and interviews. She has also worked extremely hard to raise around £800 to fund the trip. Club members look forward to hearing all about it and want to see lots of pictures! The club is very proud of the achievements of its members and those people who support it. Congratulations to them all and best wishes. It is nice to see hard work paying dividends!
