Six councillors were present at the January meeting of Carew Community Council held at the Memorial Hall.
Among them was new member, Clr. Lionel White, who was welcomed by the chairman and duly signed the declaration of acceptance.
Matters Arising
from the minutes
Overgrowth of Old Village Moor: It was agreed to ask County Clr. Neal to include this in the parish maintenance list with the Area Maintenance Team (South).
Milton Marsh Nature Walk: The county councillor was liaising with solicitors on the progress of the lease.
Proposed passing bays at Carew Cheriton: The scheme had been submitted to the forward planning pool. The highways maintenance section may be able to carry out limited work at shorter notice, though.
PLANNING
From PCNPA: Brookeville, Lawrenny Road - conservatory. Clr. Thomas declared an interest and withdrew from discussion. Following discussion, there were no adverse comments and no objections made.
From PCC: 19 Hop Gardens - two-storey and first floor extensions. Following discussion, there were no adverse comments and no objections made.
From PCC: Refusal of planning permission for the erection of one dwelling at Bartletts Well Lodge, Sageston; granting of permission for the erection of eight dwellings on land between Runway Lodge and by-pass, Sageston.
From PCNPA: Tree preservation order at Chestnut Cottage, Carew Newton.
CORRESPONDENCE
Various correspondence was received, including: Five Rivers Community Panel Workshop participation feedback from National Parks; the surgery timetable from Nick Ainger MP; Planed new skills courses; PAVS bulletin - latest news and volunteering opportunities; Code of Conduct - a letter from the monitoring officer with notes of the meeting of the Town and Community Council Liaison Group; and the Adjudication Panel for Wales annual report 2007-2008.
External auditors report: This was received from BDO Stoy Hayward for the financial year ended March 31, 2008. For the third year running there were no matters that required attention. It was agreed that internal and external auditors fees be paid.
BT Adopt a Kiosk scheme: The chairman and vice-chairman signed the agreement to purchase the kiosk at West Williamston. Clr. Goodman said that the telephone service had already been removed.
PARISH MATTERS
Goal posts for Redberth and Milton play areas: Two quotes had been received. One further one was awaited and the matter would then be available for discussion at the next meeting.
Discussion ensued on the acquisition of plants to landscape the roundabouts at Milton and Sageston. Following discussion, it was agreed to contact the Trunk Roads Agency and Welsh Assembly regarding this. Suggestions included the use of big rocks to form landscaping in the centre. Police involvement was needed regarding safety aspects. Clr. Bosley agreed to draw some sketches.
Litter picking was to take place through Carew village on Saturday, February 17. It was agreed that at each subsequent community council meeting, a date would be set for the next venue for litter removal. The purchase of weedkiller for use on these clean-up days would be considered, subject to all necessary safety requirements.
The Christmas tree lights and tree had been taken down.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 12.
