Nine members were present at the October meeting of Carew Community Council. The chairman also welcomed two members of the Carew Senior Citizens Committee, who were at the meeting to seek advice on a matter relating to age eligibility. With the community now expanding, there may be a problem accommodating all the senior members of the parish at the annual Christmas Dinner (this year to be held on November 25). The lower limit for age eligibility is 65 for men and 60 for women and, following considerable discussion, it was agreed that men and women be allowed to attend once they attain these ages along with their partners, irrespective of the age of the partner. It was agreed to restrict numbers to 100. Definite confirmations of attendance were to be obtained prior to the event. Discussion also ensued regarding changing the format, e.g. buffet, high tea or two sittings, but it was felt that the hot food format should be kept. Raising the qualifying lower age limit was also discussed, but not pursued. Clarification was to be sought from PALC on one issue and it was proposed that an explanatory letter be sent to age qualifying households The two members of the Senior Citizens Committee then left the meeting. It was proposed that a donation be made towards the cost of funding the dinner.
