Among matters considered and discussed at the December meeting of Carew Community Council were the following:

Thanks: A letter of thanks was received from Carew Senior Citizens Committee.

Luncheon Club: Clr. George Davies was giving up his role as Luncheon Club organiser. All thanked him for his tremendous support, wonderful effort and organisation of the fortnightly event in Carew.

Mrs. Brenda Waters was taking over the role and it was agreed that the clerk should write to both Mrs. Waters thanking her and the county council department advising of the change in organiser.

Rubbish: An e-mail was received regarding the dumping of rubbish and damaged fences on the detrunked road up to Carew Cross. The work was now in progress.

Carew Newton Cemetery: A quotation was received from Acorn Garden Services regarding grass cutting and strimming of overgrowth at Carew Newton Churchyard. Following discussion, it was agreed to accept this and to initially proceed with the opening of the small gate area.

Clr. Rowena Lloyd had contacted Elwyn John at Narberth Crematorium regarding the legal aspects to do with burials. Mr. John would be happy to attend a meeting to talk to the council about this, and it was agreed to invite him along in the near future.

Clr. Lloyd moved and Clr. Blayney seconded that the publication 'Davies' Law of Burial, Cremation and Exhumation' be purchased at a cost of £39.95.

Road resurfacing: It was noted that the resurfacing of Croft Road, Carew Newton had been put back a year.

Dog control: It was noted that Sageston School thanked the council for their support.

Highway matters: A letter was received from Pembrokeshire County Council regarding Church Hill, Redberth (U6377), Croft Lane Road, Carew Newton (U6354) and overhanging trees at Butts Lane.

Audit: It was proposed by Clr. George Davies and seconded by Clr. Vanessa Thomas that the audit fee of £141 be paid.

PLANNING

The following notifications from Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Pembrokeshire County Council were received:

Dwelling, Taskers Garden, West Williamston - refused.

Non-compliance of conditions 30 and 31 of NP/319/97 Carew Quarry, Carew - both granted.

Knock down barn and replace, Lower Welston Farm, Milton - granted.

Construction of porch/carport, 9 Picton Terrace, Carew -granted.

Demolish old and rebuild two storey residential dwelling, Gate Cottage, Carew - granted.

Alterations and extensions to 6-7 Picton Cottages, Birds Lane, Carew - granted.

Extension (amended design) in retrospect, Myrtle Cottage, Redberth - granted.

The following applications were received from Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and following discussion, there were no objections by those councillors present:

Change of roof pitch, Freestone Cottage, Lawrenny Road, Cresselly.

Solar collectors, Cross Cottage, West Williamston.

Improvements and extension, Cross View, Whitehill, Cresselly

The following applications were received from Pembrokeshire County Council and following discussion, there were no objections by those councillors present:

Extension to workshop, Bartlett Engineering, Birds Lane, Sageston.

CORRESPONDENCE

Lighting: A letter was received from Western Power Distribution regarding the temporary unmetered connections for festive lighting Christmas 2003. Following discussion, it was agreed to put forward a suggestion at the Carew Community Association meeting in January that village activities such as a Scarecrow competition and Christmas tree lights in 2004 be discussed.

Review of electoral arrangements - community councils in Pembrokeshire: A letter was read out. Following discussion, it was agreed that the council respond that they are quite happy with the arrangements at present

Water ranger: A letter was received from Duncan Brown, water ranger, Milford Haven Port Authority. It was agreed to ask Mr. Brown to the April meeting to discuss his role and address any waterway concerns that the council may have.

Appeals for funds: Appeals were received from Samaritans; Victim Support; Torch Theatre; Transplant Walk for Life. Following discussion and reading of the letters, it was agreed not to donate to these organisations this time.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Water problem: The clerk was to write regarding the pooling of water just past the Water Works at Milton, near Stambridge Lane, which freezes and is extremely dangerous.

Weight-lifter: Councillors were pleased and delighted to hear and read of the sporting achievements of Mr. Paul Murphy, of 26 Kesteven Court, in the field of weight-lifting. A letter of congratulations was to be sent to him.

Broadband: A reminder was given that in order to receive the Broadband Internet Service in the area, BT required an expression of interest from 200 people or above and they would then organise the setting up of the service. This could be done via telephone or forms were available in the Milton Brewery.

Signs: New direction signs were now up in Freestone Cross

Get-together: Carew Community Council's annual get-together would be organised in late January/February.
