A meeting of Carew Community Council was held recently, when the chairman welcomed Joanne Gossage, of Wardell Armstrong, to give a talk on the Carew Bridge Study.

Miss Gossage gave a brief talk and distributed handouts detailing information and options for a new bridge. Historical, ecological and the setting of the Castle and the Mill Pond were all issues that were discussed.

Councillors made their preferred choice, which was a footbridge running adjacent to the existing road bridge across the Mill Pond.

The chairman asked the meeting to stand for a minute's silence in memory of Mrs. May Gibby who recently passed away.

The audit for 2001/2002 had now been successfully completed. A notice of conclusion was displayed at Carew Memorial Hall and an external auditor was now to be appointed.

The accounts for 2002/2003 were presented to councillors and signed by the chairman.

The sum of £1,700 has been received for the first precept instalment for this financial year.

Mrs. Vanessa Thomas had been co-opted to fill the casual vacancy and would attend the next meeting.

Councillors Goodman, Blayney and Marriott were thanked for the excellent job of work done on the Flemish Chimney and all the tidying and maintenance they had carried out in the village.

The Police were in agreement with a proposal to reduce the current speed limit in Redberth from 40mph to 30mph, the speed limit to be extended into Church Road and eastward onto the U6337.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Parks were to carry out maintenance to the boundary fence on the playing field/car park in Carew.

Countryside Council for Wales had sent access maps indicating Common Land in the area. It was advised that the Village Pump in Milton was not Common Land, and was therefore not included on the map.

Pembrokeshire County Council had asked the council to provide suggestions for the road name for the development at New House Garage, Sageston. Councillors felt that the name Brook Meadow was a suitable suggestion.

Planning: Extension for garage utility and two bedrooms, 7 Hop Gardens Road, Sageston; conversion of workshops to living room and kitchen, The Stables, West Williamston; extension Norgans Cottage, Carew Newton. There were no objections to the these applications.

Planning permission had been granted for kitchen and dining room at South View, Cheriton; one dwelling, 27 Kesteven Court; alteration and extension at The Smithy, West Williamston.

Planning permission had been refused for construction of a house on land adjacent to Runway Lodge, Sageston, while an application for development at Carew Quarry had been deferred.

There were no objections for an occasional theatre licence for Carew Castle and Tidal Mill, Carew.

The clerk was to write regarding the following: Uneven pavements and kerbstones at Bartlett's Well Road; wooden bridge onto the causeway in need of repair at Carew; request for litterbins in the play area at Carew; removal of container next to the public conveniences at Carew; permission to plant flowers and possibly site a bench on the verge in Carew Newton; gate on the cycle route from Carew to Sageston unable to be opened by people in wheelchairs; travellers on the old aerodrome site in Carew currently used by Edmund Nuttall's; maintenance of a shrub area at Kesteven Court, Carew.

Appeals for funds: All agreed that donations be made to the following - Wales Air Ambulance; Tenby Area Junior Wind Band; St Mary's Church, Carew.

A public meeting is to be held at 7 pm on July 3 at Carew Memorial Hall to discuss the skateboard park. Posters will be displayed and leaflets distributed in the local area.

All are encouraged to attend to put ideas forward.

Information sought after vandalism

Police are appealing for information following vandalism at the Community Centre in Kilgetty.

Over the last few months, several panes of glass have been smashed at the Carmarthen Road building.

Anyone with any information or who may have seen anything suspicious at the premises is asked to contact Narberth police station on 860389.
