Plans for a major new development at Park House Court on Tenby's Narberth Road, which will provide a 'care village' complex for older people, are set be discussed by Pembrokeshire County Council next month.

The proposed development comprises an extension to the existing site of the Park House Nursing Home and the related healthcare/hospital facilities there already, with the new scheme to provide 132 mixed tenure serviced units with associated communal facilities and access to form a cohesive healthcare campus.

The agents for the application, Halsall Lloyd Partnership, say that the concept of the development is to create a 'care village' where a thriving community will exist within its own right, focusing on independence and creating a perfect environment for those wishing to retain their zest for life, but with added interaction with the wider community.

Facilities at the 'Park House Court Care Village' will provide high quality support to enable older people to live as independently as possible in an appropriate and safe environment tailored for and responsive to their individual needs.

The proposed development will provide 'continuing care for life' facilities which will provide a community care hub consisting of a 'Wellness Centre' as well as other facilities such as an indoor swimming pool and fitness suite.

Members of St. Mary Out Liberty Community Council discussed the application, which crosses into their ward, at a special meeting on Tuesday, with members offering no objections to the proposed development, providing that the local authority makes sure that all the local services required are adequately adjusted to accommodate a scheme of this size.

Members did express concerns, however, that a similar application had been refused during 2007 by the Assembly Minister, after being approved by the local authorities.

The plans for the development are also set to go before Tenby Town Council at their meeting on Tuesday night.
