The Carten 100 - Cardiff to Tenby charity ride rolls in this Saturday (May 9).

The Carten 100 isn’t just another ride in the calendar—it’s 100 miles of Welsh tarmac, 2,000+ riders, and the unique spirit of the journey from Cardiff to Tenby.

The cycle ride takes place roughly over a ten hour period as those taking part, take a leisurely ride from Cardiff to Tenby.

The finishing line this year will be held at the Salterns - mainly due to the fact that Tudor Square in the centre of the seaside town, can’t be closed to traffic, due to Crackwell Street currently being closed to vehicles, as structural work continues on a property located there.

While the main aim is to get people on their bikes without the pressure of it being a ‘race’ a huge benefit of the day is the money the riders raise for charity.

From an initial four riders in 2004 the challenge of riding the 100 miles from Cardiff to Tenby has kept growing in popularity with more and more friends, colleagues and acquaintances joining in.

For the 2026 event, entries are limited to 2400. Riders are encouraged not to rush to Tenby but to enjoy their day out followed by a celebratory drink or two at the seaside town’s picturesque harbour!

The start is from one of the most iconic Cardiff locations, Cardiff City Hall. Riders are free to leave when ready, with be a rolling start from 7.30am, which will take about an 90 minutes to complete, so no hurry.

This event takes place on the open road, and you must obey the Highway Code at all times. Please keep to the signposted route at all times.

The route avoids the high speed roads between Carmarthen and St. Clears (A40) and the Red Roses bypass (A477) – please do not take these roads. You may not be covered by the ride insurance and will not have access to the ride support.

The ride is supported by the emergency support vans on the basis that riders maintain an average of 9mph (including for all stops) based on an 8.30am start. The finish will be closed by 8.30pm.

The ride will operate a ‘broom wagon’ system, where a support van will patrol the rear of the event and advise any riders unable to maintain the 9mph average that they will no longer be supported on the event.
